GPIB (IEEE-488) Communication Using ProCal

Modified on Thu, 1 Apr, 2021 at 9:55 AM

ProCal supports communication with both reference instruments as well as UUT's via GPIB (IEEE-488) Communication.

To use GPIB communication a supported interface card must be installed in the computer/laptop. Adapters guaranteed compatible with ProCal (correct as of 01/04/2021) are listed below :

National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS+ (Part Number 783368-01)

National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS (Part Number 780570-01)

National Instruments PCIe-GPIB (Part Number 778930-01)

Note - The Card/Interface MUST be provided by National Instruments and have the National Instruments software suite installed.

To enable GPIB communication within ProCal, within ProSet navigate to File, System Settings and ensure that the 'GPIB Card Information' has been set to 'National Instruments'. Click 'OK' to save settings.

Reference Instruments can then have their GPIB Address information entered using the Edit Traceable Instruments menu within ProSet (read more here : http://support.transmille.com/solution/articles/9000119552).

UUT instruments can have their GPIB address entered during calibration by entering the GPIB address from the UUT command pop up.

Note - It is highly recommended to connect Transmille calibrators via USB/RS232 where possible to take advantage of the automatic detection functionality in ProCal. This functionality is only available via USB/RS232. This also removes the requirement for a dedicated GPIB interface card if only Transmille instruments are being interfaced to.
